The timing of the trip will 
benefit from an expectation of early wildflowers, and (by chance) the Perenjori Agricultural 
Show to be held on Saturday 16 August 2026.
The area has been recently inspected. The 4WD tracks can best be described as variable, 
from easy to rough, rocky, sandy, at times narrow and in one noticeable instance involved 
steep eroded gullies to negotiate. We will be guided by the Parks and Wildlife Service on 
conditions prior to embarking on any of the Park tracks. Recent advice is that some repairs 
will be undertaken before August.
Parks and Wildlife advise that dogs are a no go. This is because wild dog control measures 
include the use of 1080 poison baits and traps in the Karara Rangeland Park.
The trip is suitable for caravans, camper trailers and tenting. The four days are made up 2 
days travelling to and from Perenjori and 2 days exploring with 3 days camping at a single 
location.
Camping is proposed at the Perenjori Caravan Park. This has the advantages of facilities, a 
camp kitchen with open fire place, a very good local café, an excellent pub and access to 
the Perenjori Agricultural Show. Advice from the caravan park is that they have never run 
out of availability for unpowered sites. At the time of writing there were also a few powered 
sites available. Sites are $19 unpowered and $29 powered per night. Participants are 
requested to book individually by phone 9973 1193 (mobile 0488 731 100) and mention 
Team W4. 
The proposed itinerary is as follows:
Day 1 – Thursday August 13
Meet at Bindoon Bakery at 10.00am for briefing and departure by 10.30am. Convoy to 
Perenjori with a proposed lunch stop at Dalwallinu. Set up at Perenjori and explore the town 
via its historic main street walk. Campfire evening.
Day 2 – Friday August 14
A sightseeing day with some easy 4WD. Head oM at around 9.00am (TBC) and travel east of 
Perenjori. Visit Camel Soak for morning tea, John Forrest lookout for lunch, and via 
Warriedar Copper Mine Road to the ruins at the old Rothsay goldmine which is back in operation. Then onto the 4WD track westwards (easy) through the Damperwah Hills and 
onto the Old Rothsay Road to the ruins of the Damperwah State Farm. Continue on the Old 
Rothsay Road and back to Perenjori. That evening a group pub meal is proposed and we will 
book a table. The Friday special is lamb shanks $20.
Day 3 – Saturday August 15
A sightseeing day with some more challenging 4WDing expected. Head oM 9.30am (TBC).
Travel east to Karara Road and then north to the Lochada Track. Negotiate the Locharda 
Track taking in a few old wells and remnants of one of the rabbit proof fences. Carry onto 
Kadji Road (turn-oM not posted) and head to the Breakaway Loop for the excellent vista 
particularly the west side. This is the proposed lunch stop. A permanent detour is in place 
to the west on Kadji Road, but we will make our way to Morawa, then Perenjori.
This is the day of the Perenjori Agricultural Show. This opens at 10.00am and carries on 
until late in the evening, with the more adult fare. I am told rides close at around 4.30pm, so 
you will miss the mini train if you were so inclined. Entry is $20. 
Day 4 – Sunday August 16
A leisurely drive home is proposed and with timing and route to be decided by group 
consensus. Perhaps Wubin, Wongan Hills, Goomalling with stops along the way and the 
expectation of canola fields all over.
A FEW NOTES
• I will be in touch with Karara Rangeland Park ranger in the week of the trip to access 
track conditions, and will advise via Facebook. Note some vegetation stripes can be 
expected on your vehicle as a result of narrow tracks.
• If going could you please book your spot at the caravan park. And advise me.
• Please bring some firewood.
• I will have one of Mr Musk’s Starlink devices on board, but I did find Telstra worked 
most of the time.
• I have information pamphlets on the Karara Rangeland Park to hand out to all.
• In regard to fuel there is a pay by card service on the north side of town. At this stage 
there is no supply issue.
